Project Server 2007
It's been a bit quiet on this blog front, but I am hoping to change that across the next little while. And I'll be starting to expand the scope of this blog to include other areas. But right now, I wanted to talk a little about Project Server 2007.
I've been working now (properly) with Project Server 2007 for a couple of months. The company I work for is fortunate enough to have a decent number of '07 jobs underway right now, all with different scope and objectives, so it's been a good opportunity to put it to the test, and share experiences with the team.
Initial thoughts? Well, the whole "PWA built as a SharePoint app" is pretty cool - and very flexible for doing UI changes - I'm a big fan of that. Have been able to prototype some great stuff for clients. The major client side changes (i.e. Project Pro's multi level undo, change highlighting and visual reports) are a knockout - I steam thinking of how long we had to live without them.
The downside though? Reporting is still a bit clunky (or non-existent where it should be just built in) and resource management hasn't made any major advances (where it could have some great improvements done to it).
Don't get me wrong though - I'm really loving working with '07. It's considerably ahead of where we were with '03. I actually want to spend my spare time in a Virtual Server these days, playing around with what's possible. More to come ...
